Appellation: Amador County
Knowing that winemakers agree on almost nothing, we have found it interesting over the years how often, when given a choice of wines, they reach for the Barbera. Winemaker Mark McKenna fermented the fruit in small 1/2-ton vessels, then aged the wine in Hungarian oak, a favorite new tool in his cellar. Smooth and delicious, our 2007 Barbera has aromas of vanilla, bacon, cedar and sweet tart blackberry jam. Fruit-driven flavors follow, made bright with bursts of pomegranate and chocolate. Very well balanced, the juicy finish is long and lingering. The most food-friendly of red wines, our Barbera pairs well with just about anything…but it absolutely sings for Italian!!
